Last week was very difficult for Valenciennes as they lost both games played (2-1 vs Marseille and 3-0 vs St Etienne).
In spite of the 5 goals conceded Valenciennes’ major strength remains the lucid defensive organization. Especially last round against St Etienne, opponents found it difficult to open up Valenciennes, and so they concentrated only on long range attempts and set pieces (it worked…).
Coach Jacobs surprises everyone once in a while and leaves best player Dossevi on the bench. Most probably he makes his decisions according to what’s going on in training and who seems to be the most in-form player.
But one thing is for sure, this changes aren’t affecting the defense. They are always strong at the back.
If Valenciennes’ strongest part is the defense, the major weakness is the attack. Ghanian Waris faded after scoring on his debut for Valenciennes and proved to be only a mediocre player.
Forward Le Tallec is back in training after a long injury, but I don’t think he is able to play in this game, not even as a substitute.
Last round Nice welcomed back central defenders Bodmer and Pejcinovic after injury. The upgrade was immediate, and for opponents Lille it proved to be impossible to penetrate Nice’s penalty box.
Now Nice will also welcome back fullback Puel after he was suspended, furthermore increasing the defensive potential.
Upfront striker Cvitanich is still out-of-form but recently young Bosetti started to show off his skills and became an important player. Probably the most in-form offensive player Nice have. The only problem is that Bosetti is suspended for this game after showing his tattoos…
Winger Eysseric returned last round from injury, started as a sub, played for half an hour and got injured again…
This game has under written all over it. If by any chance someone will manage to score, they will defend in numbers afterwards, killing the game. Under 2 goals at the odds of 2.05 can be taken with medium confidence.
