Valenciennes – Monaco Preview

Although they lost Valenciennes made decent efforts last round against Bordeaux (Bordeaux won 1-0). Organization was at an appropriate level and they succeeded in keeping it tight in defense regardless conceding once.

Upfront Valenciennes could only create actions on the flanks where wingers constantly received the support of forwards Pujol and Waris. But because of the involvement in the both the creation and the finishing phase Valenciennes’ forwards ran out of energy very early in the game and couldn’t find the power to score the equalizer.

This is the last home game in Ligue1 for Valenciennes and surely they will want to make a nice impression in-front of own fans, especially playing against one of the best clubs in France.

Monaco controlled the entire game last week against Guingamp but couldn’t get more than 1 point. Opponents were highly motivated and in-spite Monaco covering many areas of the field they could not create that many dangerous opportunities.

Monaco’s determination will no doubt diminish away from home since they have no reasons to be fired up. In normal conditions, when Monaco still had title ambitions, their results away from home have been alternating, especially in this second part of the season.

Most probably Monaco will once again miss fullbacks Kurzawa and Fabinho, both of them injured.

There is no doubt Monaco have more talent and are way more in-form than Valenciennes. But without a clear objective their legs may soften up too much and hosts pushed by their fans could take advantage of this situation.

UPDATE: Hosts will be without winger Dossevi who suffered an injury. Monaco will miss midfielders Toulalan, Kondogbia and James Rodriguez.
