Troyes Reims Preview

troyes reims preview

Troyes were lucky to lose only 1-0 last week away at St Etienne. Even if defenders were often outplayed, keeper Dreyer made some excellent saves and was a defensive wall by himself.

We all know by now that this season is over for Troyes, still, they should be motivated in home games, trying to get the first victory in front of own fans. Although they haven’t found the net, Troyes have been very aggressive in their last three home games. First there was the game against Lorient, an open game with plenty of scoring opportunities on both ends, but somehow finished only 1-0 for Lorient, after forwards from both sides missed many opportunities with ease. Then there was the game against PSG when Troyes were also very pushy, attitude that backfired and Troyes ended up humiliated (lost 9-0). And last time on home ground Troyes’ opponents focused exclusively on killing the game, strategy that paid and Troyes were forced to play along (lost 1-0 against Angers).

Coach Guegan changed system last round and switched back to the classic 4-4-2. Reims have been pretty loose in defense while playing in the 3-5-2 system, but unfortunately there was no real defensive improvement after switching to 4-4-2.

Although Reims won last round (2-1 against Nantes), there were still many spaces available, and plenty of missed interventions and wrong clearances.

Actually the improvement came in the offensive phase, as now De Preville is active down the flank where he feels more comfortable, and not pushed in the center. De Preville was involved in most of Reims’ actions last week and was a constant threat for opponents.

Reims are still threatened by relegation, and they always start in full force when being motivated. Troyes is considered an accessible opponent, and surely Reims will try to control the game from the first whistle. On the other hand hosts owe it to their fans, and to themselves, to make a good game, and fight for the first home win this season. Open game should be expected.
