Toulouse barely created anything last week against PSG. It is true that they were up against one of the best and most expensive teams in France but it’s not only against them that Toulouse had problems creating.
I do not believe that newly arrived Argentian Trejo has the skills needed to be a play maker in Ligue1. Either that or he just hasn’t adapted yet.
In all the games so far very few of his passes reached forward Braithwaite (another newly transferred this season). This is a rarity and should be properly celebrated… Sadly for Toulouse, Braithwaite still thinks he’s playing in the Danish league against the likes of Aalborg or Aarhus and takes too much time whenever he’s got the ball. Even if being young means flexibility, in this rhythm I don not think he will ever adapt in Ligue1.
With this reduced offensive power there’s nothing to be done except bringing the fullbacks forward. Coach Casanova made a weird choice last round against PSG and left right back Ninkov on the bench. So far this season Ninkov has been Toulouse’s best player and for me there are no possible ways to explain this decision.
Replacement Aurier is also a talented player but at the moment doesn’t have Ninkov’s good form.
On the other side fullback Sylla is more dangerous to his own team rather than the opponents. As previously said he goes up a lot but is not very fast and can’t cope with counters.
But maybe the biggest problem for Toulouse will be the absence of central defender Abdennour (suspended) who is one of the best defenders in Ligue1. Most probably he will be substituted by Zebina who was only a bench warmer this season.
Unlike last round we may see Ben Basat or Ben Yedder as starters upfront but they are out of form at the moment.
Last week Nice dominated the entire game vs Guingamp (finished 1-0) and the score difference should have been higher but they’ve hit the woodwork so many time that I’ve lost track.
Their first two wingers (Eysseric and Bautheac) are injured but that didn’t stopped Nice from creating and posing danger. Replacements Pied and Bosetti played at high standards and not even one second they looked like 2nd choices…
Play-maker Bruls once again delivered the assist that sealed the fate of the game.
In the defense everything looks great with Pejcinovic and Bodmer in the center. No matter if Toulouse will use 2 strikers (they usually play with one, Braithwaite) they won’t be able to get passed Nice’s defense and their sole hope will be shooting from outside the box.
Meanwhile a defense without Abdennour will have big headaches playing against cunning and talented striker Cvitanich. Also keep in mind that Toulouse on home ground have a kind of savage attitude and go upfront in numbers without hesitation.
Toulouse may control the game but it will be useless for them since there is no power to convert. Meanwhile through Bruls and Cvitanich Nice are able to exploit the tinniest of holes.
Nice won’t return home empty handed, that’s why the price of 1.88 for Nice +0.5 looks really tasty.
