Toulouse were kind of superficial last week away at Montpellier (2-1). Toulouse scored very early in the game and concentrated on disrupting opponents from creating afterwards.
The strategy worked but only until minute 80 when Toulouse ran out of steam and simply collapsed. The referee also played a major role and invented a penalty for Montpellier, penalty that made the difference.
Central midfielder Chantome returned from injury last round, played for about an hour but looked uninspired and out-of-form.
Although in the lineup, forwards Ben Yedder and Braithwaite seemed absent and they didn’t even participate in scoring the goal (attacking midfielder Trejo was the one who scored).
Most likely Toulouse will once again miss central midfielder Didot, meaning they will start with only one defensive minded central midfielder and this will reduce the defensive capabilities.
Nantes made a smart game last round against Marseille (finished 1-1). They knew Marseille concentrate mostly on building on flanks and successfully closed ranks with midfielders always covering for fullbacks.
It is not like Nantes defended the entire game, they also had a couple of important chances with lone striker Gakpe being one of the most active players. Usually Gakpe plays as a winger and this may have been the first time he played as a striker. He felt very comfortable, even scored, and most likely Nantes will continue in this formula this round as well, especially with striker Djordjevic still injured and the other striker Shechter suspended.
Defensive midfielder Deaux suffered an injury at training this week but it seems there’s nothing serious and he is able to play.
Toulouse aren’t that inspired as of late, not only because they haven’t won a game in 6 rounds but because the offensive phase suffers from lack of creativity. Even though neither side has any reasons to push beyond limits the momentum definitely belongs to Nantes. Nantes +0.25 at 2.21
UPDATE: Toulouse will have to do without midfielder Chantome who suffered an injury again.
