Toulouse started last round very shy and accepted St Etienne’s dominance. St Etienne were the only ones creating chances in the first half and only in the second part of the game Toulouse managed to even things up a bit and found the equalizer with a couple of minutes before the final whistle (finished 1-1).
Although fullback Tisserand returned from suspension coach Casanova decided to continue with Moubandje on the left side. Moubandje was once again easily outplayed and seemed to be Toulouse’s major weakness. There is no doubt Moubandje will have major headaches against Marseille who have fast and talented players on the wings.
Although they found the net once Toulouse were far from convincing in the offensive phase. They had major difficulties in infiltrating inside the penalty box and managed to score only after a long range attempt. But in Toulouse’s defense it must be said that the opponent was highly organized and didn’t gave away any spaces.
Against Marseille it will be an entire different story. Marseille are conceding goals from all possible positions and against all opponents. Central defender N’Koulou is still out injured and last season’s fullbacks Morel and Fanni play as central defenders nowadays. Needless to say their performances are disappointing from all points of view.
But it’s going to be even more difficult this round seeing that central defender Fanni and fullback DjaDjedje will miss through suspension. It will be interesting to see how coach Bielsa will manage to put together a decent defense.
Lately Marseille are scoring exactly 2 goals per game so there is no problem with the attacking phase. Even young forward Batshuayi is in good form (even if he missed a penalty last round) and because of him Gignac started only on the bench last round.
Toulouse aren’t exactly scaring anyone with their offensive power but thanks to Marseille’s leaky defense this should be an entertaining encounter with many scoring opportunities and at least 3 goals. Over 2.5 goals 2.17
