Really disappointing result from Toulouse last round away at Lorient, as they got equalized in the dying moments and lost two important points (finished 1-1).
Toulouse were in good form before last round and really believed they could avoid relegation. They still have good chances to save the season, but their confidence is surely affected after conceding the equalizer in extra time last week.
Forward Ben Yedder was once again Toulouse’s best player (he also scored again), followed closely by forward Braithwaite. Those two are very active, but unfortunately their teammates don’t participate enough in the attacking phase, and Toulouse struggle to create and convert. Furthermore, lately they have 3 defensive minded central midfielders in the lineup, and only in second half coach coach Dupraz switches to a more offensive formula, by introducing attacking midfielder Trejo.
Toulouse will welcome back defender Diop and midfielder Machach after suspension.
Lyon played in numerical inferiority for about an hour last round against Nice, but still managed to win an important point (finished 1-1). Attacking midfielder Cornet got an early red card, and only Yanga-Mbiwa’s amazing tackles saved Lyon from conceding more goals.
Guests are still chasing the second position in the table that will assure a direct presence in Champions League next season. Most probably the game against Monaco next month will be decisive, but until then Lyon will have to be a bit more cautious and avoid making a wrong step.
This entire season Lyon have been very offensive minded, but lately it seems they changed strategy, and don’t adventure upfront like they used too.
Guests will have to do without suspended midfielder Cornet.
First half could be a bit boring given the stake of the game, Toulouse’s defensive formula and Lyon’s cautious approach. But the second half should be full of events, especially after hosts will make their usual offensive change. More goals to be scored in second half at 2.00
UPDATE: Toulouse’s midfielder Machach fulfilled his suspension but will miss through injury.
