Poor defensive display from Toulouse last round (lost at 3-2 at Nice). They play in a 3-5-1 system and there are huge spaces left open on the sides, as the lateral midfielders are mostly involved in the offensive phase and neglect the defensive duties.
Central defenders seem out-of-form, while midfielders fail to pay attention to opponents at the edge of the penalty box.
It’s true that Toulouse were without defensive midfielder Aguilar who may return against Lyon and increase a bit the defensive potential, but even so, it’s no major headache to score against Toulouse. Just run wild on the wing and make a short pass behind at teammates waiting near the edge of the box. Lacazette from Lyon is mostly active on the wing and this is actually his favorite playing style…
On the other hand in the attacking department we could see some really impressive actions created by Toulouse. Upfront chemistry is at high levels and Toulouse looked capable of opening up opponents. Forwards Braithwaite and Ben Yedder understand each-other perfectly and they can always score out of nothing.
Although Lyon missed a couple of important players they didn’t really had any troubles against Rennes (won 2-0). Defensively it’s not like Lyon were outstanding or created an impenetrable wall, but more like Rennes made some really poor efforts and were crippled upfront.
Even without creative players Gourcuff and Grenier, Lyon managed to build enough dangerous actions, mainly thanks to forward Lacazette who was incredibly active, but also because of defensive midfielder Gonalons who surprisingly participated a lot in the offensive phase, even with the risk of leaving open spaces behind.
Lyon will welcome back defender Kone after suspension and midfielder Gourcuff after injury.
While Lyon will take advantage of the spaces on the flanks, Toulouse will try and exploit Gonalons’ offensive appetite. This should be an action packed game with many scoring opportunities and at least 3 goals. Over 2.25 at 1.96
UPDATE: Looks like this game comes too early for Lyon’s midfielder Gourcuff. Most probably he will make a full comeback next week. Same bet
