Toulouse deserved to be eliminated from the Cup after the game against Marseille.
It was a game fully dominated by Marseille, a game in which Toulouse scored 1 goal (lost 2-1) but had no shots on target…
It seems there’s no solution for Toulouse’s offensive problems. At one point I was blaming newly arrived striker Braithwaite for the lack of firepower but possible replacement Ben Basat isn’t any better either.
Another problem is the way Toulouse build their chances. The creation phase mostly takes place on the wings, especially now with play-maker Chantome out injured.
Without Chantome Toulouse just aren’t capable of creating anything in the center. To make an idea on Chantome’s value you need to know that Lyon, Marseille and Lille are all after him, and will fight to assure his services in the winter transfer window.
Before last round Guingamp’s playing style was dominated by apathy. But last week against Monaco they suddenly woke up after getting a red card.
Monaco were already 2-0 up, but after Guingamp’s awakening they couldn’t find the net anymore. The mobilization was exemplary and hopefully players will show the same dedication against Toulouse as well.
Guingamp will finally welcome top-scorer Yatabare after a long injury. He may not play from the start but still half an hour could be enough to inflict some damage.
Odds on Toulouse are way too low to deserve any-kind of attention. Guingamp has the power to resist crippled attacks carried mostly on the flanks and strike on counters. Toulouse may hold possession and impose the rythm but that doesn’t mean they’ll win. Guingamp +0.75 at 1.87 is the way to go.
