Awful display from Toulouse last round away at Lyon (lost 3-0). Maybe the game was considered lost from the beginning as coach’s Casanova decision to start with young Blin in central midfield and leave experienced players like Regattin and Didot on the bench is simply inexplicable.
Players usually remember their 1st appearances in important tournaments but surely Blin will want to forget his 1st Ligue1 game after a poor performance. Coach Casanova insisted and let him play for 90 minutes even if Blin made many errors and at one point it seemed he was annoying his teammates.
With a central midfielder at amateurish level the defense lacked a proper support and the offensive department also suffered. It is unclear if coach Casanova will start in the same formula this round, but it’s not the first time he makes weird decisions and leaves in-form and experienced players on the bench.
Bastia surprised everyone last round after winning over en titre champions PSG (won 4-2). Not even the most optimistic fans believed Bastia can get anything out of that encounter especially after 20 minutes when they were 2-0 down. They managed an extraordinary comeback and even if the they didn’t dominate or imposed the rythm Bastia showed excellent organizational skills and efficacy in the offensive department.
It’s not like they created chance after chance, in-fact they scored a goal from penalty and 2 other goals following corners, but they fought admirably for every single ball and believed in their chance until the final whistle.
Bastia registered another impressive result in the midweek after qualifying to the next stage of the French Cup (won 3-1 over Rennes). Play-maker Boudebouz and fullback Cioni were the only ones rested against Rennes. We can’t talk about tiredness since the tournament just resumed, we can only talk about form, and from this point of view Toulouse and Bastia are at opposite ends.
Toulouse are eager to get back on the right track and they may get careless in the attempt to find the net, and a confident and in-form Bastia may take advantage of that. Bastia +0.5 at 2.03“
