By now most of you are well aware of St Etienne’s strengths and weaknesses. In the midweek Europa League game against Dnepr we had confirmation of their poor finishing skills. Continuous possession in midfield is of no use when you lack the finishing touch.
The talent in midfield is truly impressive but somehow St Etienne fail to deliver results. It is still a mystery if it’s coach’s Galtier fault or the players are to be blamed for the offensive fragility.
St Etienne once again used the best team possible in Europa League and there was only one substitute for the entire 90 minutes so tiredness may appear.
Striker Erding suffered an injury last round and missed against Dnepr. Most likely he will sit out again.
Toulouse appear to be more determined than opponents in most games. It happened again last round against PSG when they got a well deserved draw (finished 1-1).
Attacking midfielder Regattin is slowly becoming an important player. He is simply full of energy and first at the ball regardless the opponent. He suffered an injury against PSG but according to latest reports he is fit for action.
Wingers Akpa-Akpro and Ninkov were also very active and gave huge headaches to PSG’s renowned fullbacks.
The defense in 3 is way more stable in comparison to the first rounds when they conceded goals from all possible positions. Newly arrived central defender Grigore is by now a leader and a wall by himself.
Toulouse will again miss defender Spajic, midfielder Didot and winger Matheus.
Toulouse’s energetic play style may actually favor St Etienne as attacking midfielders may have more spaces available for making maneuvers. But hosts’ offensive impotence as of late is enough to put anyone away from a bet on St Etienne.
