St Etienne Rennes Preview

etienne rennes preview

The result between Marseille and St Etienne last round doesn’t fully reflect the reality in the field. Marseille were extremely efficient and converted most of their opportunities, while St Etienne struggled once again to approach opponents’ penalty box, in-spite holding possession (Marseille won 4-0).

I’ve mentioned before how St Etienne are very deficient when it comes to applying the final touch. Midfielders need to make considerable efforts in order to compensate the lack of a valuable striker.

Last round forward Tannane recovered after a long injury, played for an entire half, but couldn’t achieve much. Unfortunately there is not much time left for Tannane to pick up form.

Hosts welcome back captain Perrin, but will miss fullback M’Bengue and winger Monnet-Paquet.

Rennes were surprisingly organized last week against Lille, and somehow managed to resist opponents’ siege for 90 minutes. Rennes scored very early, twice, and concentrated all forces in defense, winning 2-0 in the end.

Young winger Mubele found the net again, and his market value and confidence are steadily increasing.

Rennes are just average, especially in recent weeks, but they have the ability to mobilize and win points when nobody expects it. Most of their games in 2017 finished in draws (9 draws), and there are pretty good chances this number will increase by the end of the season.

Since they don’t have anything to lose, Rennes always continue to make their usual game if opponents take the lead. Maybe this is why they managed to turn the result in so many games.

Rennes welcome back defenders Bansebaini and Baal.

It’s worth mentioning the game will be played behind closed doors.

From the last 6 games between these sides, 4 finished in draws. This can easily be another draw, especially taking in consideration Rennes’ record and playing style in 2017, and how St Etienne exhaust their midfielders. The value is on HT/FT bets. The normal choice would be 1/X priced at around 15.00. But it will be a shame to miss out if the game develops the other way around, so we can also try 2/X also also at 15.00
