St Etienne – Nantes Preview

St Etienne Nantes Preview

St Etienne

Last round was only the 2nd Ligue1 game in which St Etienne managed to score 2 goals. The first time it happened they played against Bastia who finished the game in 9 so scoring two goals was not exactly a surprise.

But last week it was different as forward Roux was extremely active and always on alert. This determination helped him score his first goal for St Etienne. Roux didn’t have such a combative attitude in the past and it’s no coincidence he started being more determined only after St Etienne transferred-in another forward, Beric who used to be top scorer in Austria.

Now Roux doesn’t have a guaranteed place in the lineup anymore and the fear of watching only from the bench helps to overcome his limits.

Bad news for St Etienne as key player Hamouma suffered an injury and will miss for about one month.

Nantes are very aggressive as of late and they are getting at least one red card per game. Last round midfielder Adryan and forward Sightorsson got red cards and Nantes didn’t stood a chance playing in 9 against Rennes (Rennes won 2-0).

It’s been mentioned on this site before that Nantes have really improved in comparison to last season but that improvement can not be seen if they aren’t playing in 11…

The defense is rock solid with experienced Cana and Djidji in the center (and Vizcarrondo on the bench) who receive constant support from at least one central midfielder. There are many new players in the attacking phase so chemistry may be a bit low and maybe this is why Nantes are yet to score in away games.

Nantes will miss midfielder Adryan and forward Sightorsson but will welcome back midfielders Toure and Lenjani from suspension.

Odds may be a bit unbalanced given that St Etienne had a difficult midweek Europa league game and they will also be without key player Hamouma. But unfortunately it seems that Nantes can’t be trusted as they are yet to reach maturity.

UPDATE: It seems that winger Hamouma recovered miraculously and is once again available. Nantes welcome back keeper Riou and defender Lenjani
