St Etienne – Lens Preview

Nobody can understand coach Galtier anymore. Two weeks ago against champions PSG he started in an offensive formula with 2 strikers, and last round against relegation candidates Caen he switched back to the classic 4-2-3-1 system (Caen won 1-0)

Furthermore all central midfielders had defensive profiles (Lemoine, Clement and N’Guemo) and only in the 2nd half, after St Etienne were 1-0 down, coach Galtier added another forward but it was all in vain.

Both the offensive and defensive potential were diminished because of coach’s Galtier decision. By the time central midfielder N’Guemo was substituted with a forward he already committed a couple of huge errors, one of which led to St Etienne conceding.

St Etienne’s defenders were slow, couldn’t keep up with a fast paced rythm and were often caught off guard by simple through balls.

In-fact St Etienne were lucky not to concede more as opponents missed a couple of great opportunities.

Lens were pretty unfortunate last round when they ended up splitting the points in-spite dominating the entire game (1-1 vs Bastia).

Opponents had only one shot on target, from an easily awarded penalty, scored and defended until the final whistle.

Forward Coulibaly is getting better with each round and his 1st Ligue1 goal in 2015 should arrive pretty soon.

It seems that Lens found other means of building up play as they don’t focus entirely on the left flank anymore. In the 1st part of the season the left side with Baal and Valdivia was Lens’ main weapon but last round actions were evenly distributed on the two flanks.

At the moment these sides seem to be heading in different directions. If St Etienne are in a ,Lens are definitely improving and picking up pace. Lens +1 at 1.93
