St Etienne didn’t have a chance last round away at PSG. They had one or two attempts on target, but couldn’t apply real pressure(PSG won 3-0). It is clear they can’t compete with PSG, but they looked pretty good in the other games.
For a couple of seasons already St Etienne lack a real finisher and rely mostly on wingers.
Recently they have loaned-in creative midfielder Cabella who should increase the attacking potential. Cabella comes from Marseille where he used to compete with world class players like Payet and Thauvin, and as a result he was mostly a bench warmer. Most probably Cabella will make his first appearance for Marseille this round.
Angers were dominated in all games so far, but they are yet to be defeated this season. They are hard workers, make continuous efforts and never hesitate to strike on counters. New forward Crivelli fits perfectly in Angers’ system and already scored a goal this season.
At the moment most of their attacking actions consist in long balls for the lone striker.
It must be really difficult to play against Angers, as they agglomerate all areas and never seem to get tired. There is no doubt that hosts will impose the rhythm, and although Angers is a tough opponent, I trust St Etienne’s wingers to make the difference down the flanks. ST ETIENNE -0.5 at 2.16
