St Etienne are still involved in the battle for the 3rd place (Champions League playoffs) and so they started the game at Nantes last round bent on getting the 3 points.
At the end of the first half they were already 3-0 up and opponents induced in an advanced state of confusion.
The chances for St Etienne to catch the 3rd place are very real seeing that direct competitors Lille have a difficult game away at Lorient. In these conditions all St Etienne need to do is win over Ajaccio and they have 90 minutes available to make sure they will have a comfortable lead near the end of the game and can’t be surprised and compromise an entire season.
St Etienne will welcome back fullback Clerc after he was suspended last round.
Last week Ajaccio managed to score twice even before opponents had the chance to settle in the field. Afterwards they concentrated all forces in defending the lead. The plan worked out as they won 2-1 but in the end it was a poor effort and an ugly game. Still, they achieved their goal in getting a last Ligue1 victory in-front of the home crowd.
Ajaccio will welcome back central defender Tonucci who was suspended last round.
There is no doubt St Etienne will have an eye at what will happen between Lorient and Lille, but in the same time they will concentrate on scoring as many as possible and assuring the 3 points even before the half time whistle. St Etienne -2 at 1.92
