Ever since new coach Renard arrived Sochaux improved offensively. At the back they still concede goals on a conveyor belt and the defensive errors are more visible than ever.
It seems their purpose is now to outscore the opponent. The right flank is without doubts the most dangerous part of the team. As a proof we have the Cup game against Montpellier when right back Corchia scored a goal, just like right winger Contout.
For St Etienne solid left back Brison is still out injured, meaning that young Ghoulam will be the one having to stop all of Sochaux’s actions. Ghoulam is a talented young player, accustomed with going high up the field (maybe a bit too much), but still fragile when it comes to defensive interventions.
There are no news regarding the injuries of forwards Poujol and Mayuka, so most probably Sochaux will again use Bakambu upfront. He is no impressive talent but he’s got an undeniable skill, taking opponents out of play by continuously running without the ball. This is why winger Contout always has so much free space.
St Etienne almost got away with a win over PSG last round. Offensive players successfully did their job but the defense once again betrayed them. Unfortunately there are no signs of improvement in that department. Furthermore central midfielder Lemoine will miss through suspensions diminishing the defensive potential.
I could go on and on analyzing these teams and their preferred tactics but to be honest I believe we don’t get clearer and easier overs than this one. Not to mention the great odds for over 2.5 goals (2.07 in this moment). I Don’t know who compiles the odds for bookies but I think I could do a better job, at least when it comes to Ligue1.
