Since coach Renard arrived there’s an obvious change in attitude at Sochaux, as players strive for more and they are more confident. Unfortunately there was no improvement in the defensive department and Sochaux currently have the worst defense in Ligue1.
It is the worst not only because the stats say so, but also because the way they play. There are too many open spaces and defenders move in slow motion.
If that’s not enough they will be missing central defender Zouma and defensive midfielder Lopy, both of them suspended.
Upfront things are better as they finally found a striker in powerful and skilled Zambian Mayuka. He scored an amazing goal last round away at Marseille, a goal that surely will guarantee him a starting place.
Opponents Bastia opened the score early last round and killed the game (won 1-0 vs Rennes). Veteran keeper Landreau saved them a couple of times, but the shots weren’t exactly powerful or precise.
Upfront they’ve missed several good chances to increase the lead. The offensive trio Khazri – Boudebouz – Krasic found some rhythm and became the most important part of the team.
Playmaker Boudebouz just transferred to Bastia this season but he already integrated in the squad. He came from Sochaux and in an interview he admitted it would be great to score against his former team.
With Mayuka’s shooting precision Bastia will need two Landreaus to keep a clean sheet… On the other side even a team of grandpas could score against Sochuax, especially deprived of 2 defensive players.
Odds for over 2.5 are just insane at 2.16.
