Round 18: St Etienne – Lorient Preview

[pullquote]This game will be mostly controlled by the hosts, they will create a lot and hopefully Aubameyang and Gradel will regain confidence and find the net eventually. Meanwhile Lorient will concentrate on striking on counters, but St Etienne’s defense is mature enough to prevent that. The price is not that good at 1.75, but it’s the most probable result, given the way these teams look.[/pullquote]Hosts played much better than the previous 3 results say (2 points from 3 games). Last round away at Bordeaux coach Galtier tried a new tactic and in a way it worked. He used fullback Ghoulam as a winger. of course time is needed for Ghoulam to adapt to that new position but he’s got what it takes to be a great winger. Speed, stamina, precision, etc. Even if he left the defense, there’s Brison now there in his place, and he’s got more of a defensive profile, meaning that he doesn’t go up that often, and that’s an improvement. Defensive midfielder Clement is a party crasher for opponents, as he’s a wall by himself, ruining everything opponents create with sweat and efforts. Upfront they may be a standstill as Aubameyang and Gradel haven’t been themselves lately, but hopefully that will chance on home ground, and they will be able to achieve full potential.

Lorient’s results are deceiving. 3 consecutive wins and now they are standing in the upper half of the table but still their game is far from convincing. A state of relaxation will of course be installed, as they aren’t the kind of team to always thrive for more. With one of the most shuffled defense in this league it finally seems like they found the perfect formula, after 3 consecutive clean sheets. But again, it’s only an illusion, created with the of crippled opponents. Their merit is that they build a lot, on all areas, and there are enough balls for the two strikers. But in front of a stable defense it will be twice as hard for them. Midfielder Jouffre is still out, same like fullback Le Lan. On the plus side winger Monnet Pacquet is back, same as defender Lautoa. Lautoa back means another change in the defense, and Monnet Pacquet available again means lots of balls on the flank.
