Round 16: Toulouse – Bastia Preview

[pullquote]This game can go in any direction, both in terms of 1,X,2 and over or under. But one thing is for sure: even if Toulouse win, they won’t be able to put too many past Bastia’s new and improved defense, especially with director Rothen back for them. 2.20 for Bastia +1 should be a solid bet.[/pullquote]Toulouse’s results are more alternating than the moods of patients from mental institutions. They go from greatness to mediocrity from one round to another. They are still without a proper striker upfront as Riviere was barely used this season and is out of form (even an in form Riviere wouldn’t pose much threat) and Ben Yedder looks to be only a temporary solution. Without a real forward all the burden stands on the shoulders of midfielders, and the thing is that all of them have to have a great day in order for Toulouse to achieve maximum potential. If that condition is not fulfilled we should expect mediocre performance. Fullback Aurier is back from injury and that will improve, most of all, the offensive potential, as he goes up a lot on the flank, trying to create superiority. But his defensive skills aren’t so impressive. Defensive midfielder Capoue will miss (suspended) just like central defender Abdennour (injured). The latter will be missed once again as his replacement Yago is too young, inexperienced and unstable.

Bastia impressed lately mainly because of defensive improvements. They played for several rounds without many important players and still managed to keep tight at the back. That is a real plus for them, especially since the defense was the major cause for concern every time they played. Furthermore they will be welcoming back defensive midfielder Rothen, their heart and soul… Cahuzac and Marchal (players with defensive profiles) are still out, but it won’t be the first time they miss. Other good news for them is that wingers Khazri and Maoulida are ready for action once again, so Bastia will be able to resume with their usual tactics: actions on the flanks finalized with balls for Modeste in the box.

If Bastia will keep up last’s round defensive standard, Toulouse’s midfielders will get exhausted pretty fast. This game can go in any direction, both in terms of 1,X,2 and over or under. But one thing is for sure: even if Toulouse win, they won’t be able to put too many past Bastia’s new and improved defense, especially with director Rothen back for them. 2.20 for Bastia +1 should be a solid bet.
