Round 16: Rennes – Brest Preview

[pullquote]Rennes’ coach Antonetti will have a heart attack (he’s very passionate in each game) seeing the hard times his team will have in unlocking Brest. Too overconfident because of lucky results may lead to Rennes dropping points here. Double chance on Brest at 2.29 may very well be the bet of the round in France.[/pullquote]Rennes put 3 past Troyes the other round, but in spite of that their offensive strategy was mainly based on long shots. Midfielders are in a standstill as they fail to be inventive and create tunnels or superiority. Forward Erding is also invisible for a while now, and he’s almost useless to the team. The defense is also having problems as both Boye and Kana-Biyik (central defenders) have other things on their minds and seem to be lost in space… Defender Boye is injured, and even if he’s kind of apathetic, there’s a reason of why he was a starter…To simply put it: Rennes’ good result don’t reflect the way they play. Maybe they need some rest or something and start all over with a fresh attitude.

Brest were less combative than usual, in their last home game versus Marseille.  That must have rang some alarm bells, as this competition is very balanced, and nobody guarantees them a place in Ligue 1 next season… Away from home they have one of the worst displays possible (also visible in the standings) and now would be the perfect time to try and change that.  Even if they seemed a bit more relaxed last game, the defense still closes ranks pretty well and doesn’t allow much spaces for the opponents. Defensive midfielder Licka is suspended, but they have Grougi in that position, a very talented and skilled player, only that at the moment he’s not in the best of form. The good news is that striker Ben Basat, their only hope upfront, is available again after suspension.
