Round 15: Ajaccio – St Etienne Preview

[pullquote]One thing is for sure though:  St Etienne will be too relaxed, making them prone to errors at the back and soft upfront.

And given Ajaccio’s attacking issues, goals should be as rare as hair on Bruce Willis’ head…

1.66 for under 2.5 is not exactly gold, but those of you in search of higher valuable odds can always take 0-1 goals at 3.00[/pullquote]

Hosts let many people down last round, 1-1 away at Nancy. They unexpectedly  conceded after a tremendous execution and for the rest of the game struggled to exploit the spaces in Nancy’s defense.

Ajaccio is a decently organized team, with defenders and midfielders making big efforts throughout 90 minutes. They also have a great keeper, Mexican Ochoa that gives them great amount of confidence.

The problem is clearly upfront. Relationships between newly transferred Mutu and the other players failed to take shape so far. There are no initiatives coming from him and directed to his teammates, and when he’s given balls he always manages to miss the target. The frustration is obvious in all their games.

The other forward Eduardo is not involved in the game that much. When teammates play him is almost always with long balls. He is a solid and well built player, but receiving long passes means there’s nobody near you to help carrying on the action, and the only choice is a one touch shot on target.

This is why Ajaccio have big troubles in converting their chances.

St Etienne just loves playing on Fridays. Every time they opened a round they made a great impression and raised the standards of French football. However this game may come a bit to soon, as only a few days ago they have achieved a great performance in the Cup vs PSG. The game was long and exhausting and only after penalties St Etienne went through to the next stage.

It won’t be easy for them to get the same satisfaction versus any other opponent in this league, especially since it was the second time this year that they defeated PSG.

Besides tiredness, that is a logical factor in these circumstances, they will also be low on motivation. After such an achievement a state of relaxation is always installed. There may be some changes in their team but it is impossible to foresee what those changes will be.

One thing is for sure though: St Etienne will be too relaxed, making them prone to errors at the back and soft upfront.

And given Ajaccio’s attacking issues, goals should be as rare as hair on Bruce Willis’ head…
