Rennes Toulouse Preview

rennes toulouse preview

RENNES

Even if they dominated in terms of possession, and even played in numerical superiority, Rennes couldn’t get more than a draw last round against Angers (finished 1-1). They surely knew the opponent was extremely dangerous on counters and should have done better, especially after Angers remained in 10.

Winger Grosicki was one of the most active players, constantly switched from one side to the other, but unfortunately all his attempts missed the target.

Lately Rennes started playing beautiful football, with many one touch passes, ingenious through balls, but the problem is they aren’t very effective when it comes to scoring goals. Maybe they will be more pragmatic this round, since important winger Ntep will return from injury. Midfielder Bansebaini will also make a comeback.

TOULOUSE

Toulouse imposed the rythm last week against Metz, but lost all points in the end (Metz won 2-1). They aren’t very resourceful in the attacking phase, in-fact they have only 4 players that carry all offensive actions: forward Braithwaite, playmaker Trejo, and wingers Sylla and Durmaz. There are other attacking players on the bench (forward Toivonen for example), but Toulouse achieve maximum potential in the formula mentioned above.

Last round winger Durmaz was suspended, and playmaker Trejo suffered an injury right before the game started. As a result Toulouse weren’t very creative, and their actions were very predictable. The attacking strength should be at normal levels this round, as both Durmaz and Trejo will return to the lineup.

In defense they looked a bit more vulnerable than usual, but that is because young fullback Adou started in the lineup. Most probably coach Dupraz learned his lesson and won’t make any more experiments.

BETTING

Home side have a small advantage but it’s fully reflected in the odds, as bookies did a great job adjusting the prices. If both sides perform like last round, we may see a lively encounter, but not that many goals.

UPDATE: Rennes will be without winger Grosicki. Guests will once again miss playmaker Trejo who hasn’t recovered yet.
