Rennes – PSG Preview

rennes psg preview

Last round Rennes were lucky to get away with a draw considering that opponents Lorient constantly pushed the game forward and created the best of chances. Unfortunately a red card tilted the balance and the game finished 1-1.

Lately Rennes have been under-performing as they concede too easily and also struggle to keep possession in opponents half. It’s been six rounds already since Rennes last kept a clean sheet.

Things should improve soon as important keeper Costil resumed training after being injured for a couple of rounds, same as key winger Ntep. With Ntep and Costil in the lineup the overall strength will increase considerably.

Rennes found some form this week after a good performance in the Cup away at Bastia (they won 1-0), game in which they used the best possible squad.

Rennes will welcome back forward Sio after he was suspended in the Cup game.

PSG had an easy game last week against St Etienne and won convincingly without making too much efforts (finished 4-1). All players seem to be in top form, even young fullback Kurzawa who scored his first goal for PSG last round.

That was the perfect moment for PSG to achieve full potential since next week they will be traveling to Madrid for an important Champions League encounter. Once again we may see some changes in the lineup and maybe even some lack of motivation.

Only 11 rounds passed so far but PSG already have a considerable advantage over the 2nd place (7 points). This advantage will only increase in the near future and coach Blanc will need to apply psychological tricks so that players will be motivated once in the field, otherwise they will barely move their legs.

The odds on PSG aren’t very valuable considering that Rennes will be improved in comparison to recent rounds and that PSG already packed their bags for the trip to Madrid.

UPDATE: PSG will miss defenders David Luiz and Marquinhos, midfielder Pastore and forward Cavani.

Rennes: squad not communicated yet

PSG: Trapp, Sirigu – Aurier, Kurzawa, Maxwell, Thiago Silva, Van der Wiel – Verratti, Thiago Motta, Matuidi, Di Maria, Lucas, Stambouli, Rabiot – Ongenda, Lavezzi, Ibrahimovic, Augustin
