Rennes – Marseille Preview Round 22

Rennes as expected took all the points from last round, away at Bastia. The game was easy for Rennes as bastia they way they look now aren’t exactly the toughest of opponents.  Hosts are suffering after offensive midfielder Pitroipa left for African Cup of Nations. He was the orchestra man, he sang and played the instruments in the same time, he dribbled the opponents, made the assist and scored.

Forward Erding is giving Rennes some hope as he looked really good last game, picking up a bit of form. With Erding gaining rhythm and offensive midfielders Feret and Alesandrini always dangerous, hosts surely have the strength of creating damage in most defenses.

At the back they finally sold midfielder M’Vila to Rubin Kazan. Regardless to how this looks it won’t actually be a major loss for Rennes. In fact M’Vila was always involved in all the internal conflicts that occured at Rennes, furthermore than that, many were started by him. He was mostly a bench warmer lately, so his absence won’t drag the team down. Pajot can successfully in that role and maybe even do a better job…

The central defense doesn’t look that good with Kana Biyik always one step behind forwards and Theophile converted from a fullback position.

With things settling down after M’Vila’s transfer there’s a big possibility that Rennes will enter w winning phase. They can not count on Montano, Mensah and Apam, all injured.

Marseille got an undeserved win at home vs Montpellier. They suffer a lot in the creation phase. Cheyrou is completely out of form, and the impact is tremendous as he’s an exponential player. Valbuena runs a loty but most the times aimlessly around the field and the Ayew brothers aren;t shy in showing their limits.

But they have Gignac upfront who can score with a single touch of the ball. He seems to have recovered mentally after the long injury that kept him out. Also they’ve brought in another striker, Sougou from CFR Cluj. He’s not a known player but impressed in Champions League this season, very agile and effective player.

With Gignac and Erding in form, with Rennes’ central defense not that stable, this game should be pretty entertaining. At least 3 goals.
