Rennes – Lyon Preview

Rennes were completely dominated last round away at Lille but they still ended up with 1 point.

With the exception of a few blunders Rennes looked good in defense, but upfront it was a miracle they managed to score.

[restrict paid=true level=1] It appeared that defensive players made a good game because opponents Lille weren’t that creative. There are simply no comparison terms between Lille and Lyon when it comes to inventiveness.

Central defender Kana-Biyik suffered a nasty injury that will keep him sidelined for some time.

In attack Toivonen played his first game for Rennes, but he could barely touch the ball. Wingers Pitroipa and Alessandrini tried to activate Toivonen through long balls but always missed the target by miles. Their form is just awful.

Rennes bought 2 more players, Polish central midfielder Grosicki and winger Ntep. Personally I consider buying Grosicki a waste of money (around 1 mil EUR), especially since Rennes have many talented central midfielders. Ntep on the other hand is a great acquisition. A young players with exceptional ball control and vision. He is certainly one for the distant future. The only problem is he won’t be that useful in the near future…

Lyon is the best team in Ligue1 at the moment. Central midfielders Gonalons and Fofana are omnipresent and opponents can barely reach Lyon’s penalty box.

Midfielder Gourcuff suffered an injury last round and is doubtful, but I wouldn’t worry too much as M’Vuemba (the one who replaced Gourcuff last round) performed at high standards.

Forward Gomis was a disaster in the 1st part of the season and his attitude was simply outrageous. But all of that changed and it seems now he is fully dedicated to performing well in the field. Alongside Gomis, forward Lacazette is also performing at an increased level. It does wonders for the self esteem when your passes are converted in goals instead of teammates missing the target by miles…

With wingers Pitroipa and Alessandrini in poor form, Rennes just won’t be able to pose any real danger. Hosts may be organized at the back, but if there’s one team able to find the net in this game, that’s going to be Lyon.

Lyon DNB at 1.84 with medium confidence.[/restrict]
