Those of you who are constant readers of this site already know by now that Rennes is maybe the weirdest side in Ligue1. When they play good football Rennes end up with no points and whenever they underperform Rennes get positive results.
Last week Rennes was the better side, held more possession, created more opportunities, but failed to find the net and lost the game because of a goal conceded from penalty (lost 1-0 at Reims).
There are moments when Rennes simply play amazing football both down the wings, with Ntep dazzling opponents, and in the center with Doucoure delivering precise key passes. Unfortunately for Rennes those moments are too rare and they also seem a bit too careless when trying to apply the finishing touch.
Hosts will miss defensive midfielder Fernandes who is suspended.
Just like many other Ligue1 sides Lyon reduced rythm in the last rounds after realizing they can’t go anywhere up or down in the table. Forwards Fekir and Lacazette aren’t that incisive anymore and most probably they already booked a vacation somewhere on a distant beach. In these conditions Lacazette’s suspension may be a good thing as his replacement will probably make more efforts.
Defensive players also took the foot off the gas, lost focus and it’s not that difficult catch them off guard nowadays.
Keeping in mind Rennes’ performances so far maybe a half time live bet would be a good idea. If Rennes make a good first half they will most probably end up empty handed, and if Lyon will control the first part then surely Rennes will take all the points…
UPDATE: Lyon will miss midfielder Grenier but welcome back forward N’Jie
