Key winger Ntep got injured in November and Rennes are struggling to win games ever since. Their attitude is also a bit annoying as they are contempt with just one point and are happy to withdraw in defense.
The moments in which Rennes look determined and pushy are too rare, and this explains why they lead the table when it comes to draws (9 draws so far).
Ntep missed the Cup game against Nice (Rennes qualified at penalties) and most probably will sit out against Lorient as well.
Fullback Danze got a red card in the Cup game and will miss through suspension.
Lorient also struggled in the Cup against Ligue2 side Tours (won 3-2 after extra time). But the bad news is that Lorient lost top scorer Moukandjo who suffered an injury.
Lorient are pretty unlucky because forwards Moukandjo and Waris are often injured or suspended and the offensive strength is considerably diminished. With both of them in the lineup Lorient are capable of scoring against most Ligue1 sides.
Lorient’s biggest weakness seems to be the central midfield, as players don’t take part in the offensive phase at all and also have reduced defensive skills.
It’s difficult to anticipate how this game will develop but certainly Rennes won’t mind letting Lorient impose the rythm. Remains to be seen if guests will be able to find the net without top scorer Moukandjo.
UPDATE: Lorient’s important defender Lautoa was left outside the squad
