Rennes – Guingamp Preview

Last round Rennes won away at Nantes 3-0, and once again impressed through effectiveness upfront and lucidity at the back.

Newly transferred in offensive players Toivonen, Grosicki and Ntep seem to have accommodated and found a rythm. Rennes do not rely only on long balls anymore and also try short and through passes.

Winger Alessandrini was injured last round but will most probably return now. It is curious to see who will coach Montanier prefer, seeing that newly arrived wingers proved to be solid and reliable.

Central defender Kana-Biyik is out injured for a couple of rounds already, but replacement Boye is a true warrior. It is hard to get past by Boye, with or without the ball… In terms of attitude and dedication, Boye is definitely superior to Kana-Biyik.

Overall Rennes look pretty good and it seems that finally there’s some balance and confidence is running high.

Opponents Guingamp imposed the rythm last round against Nice (won 1-0), but once again they had major difficulties when it came to applying the finishing touch. The winning goal came only in extra time, when some of the players were already on their way to the dressing room…

Away from home Guingamp is one of the poorest Ligue1 sides, not only because of stats, but also because of their approach. They are shy and try to wait for the opponent to make the first move, but don’t have sufficient power to resist incoming attacks, and almost always end up struggling to get back into the game.

Guests will welcome back winger Diallo after he was suspended last round. Otherwise there shouldn’t be any changes in the lineup.

Even if Guingamp won last round, the momentum definitely belongs to Rennes who are in full confidence and very ambitious (new players are determined to earn a definite place in the lineup).

It won’t be an easy game, but if Rennes will keep it tight in defense (as they did last round) they will prevail in the end. The chances for a clean sheet are pretty high, given Guingamp have problems with scoring goals.

Rennes to win at 2.00 is definitely worth a medium size bet.
