It was surprising to see Rennes struggling to score last week, especially after they had scored a total of 16 goals in the previous 5 rounds. Opponents were very compact and determined, and Rennes lost the battle in the middle of the field (Nice won 3-0).
Rennes are still highly motivated, as they are chasing a position in Europe for next season. Difficult encounters will follow for Rennes, against Monaco and PSG, so they should make the most of the games against opponents like Guingamp.
Even if they failed to score last week, Rennes still have one of the most powerful attacking lines in Ligue1, with the perfect mix between experience, creativity and pragmatism.
Last round Guingamp played against PSG’s second squad, created a couple of real scoring opportunities, but were still very shy in applying the finishing touch, and in the end the defensive fragility betrayed them again (PSG won 2-0).
They were very active in the attacking phase, and forward Briand gave huge headaches to PSG’s experienced defenders. Briand is a constant threat for all opponents, regardless his teammates’ form.
With a bit more organization and defensive confidence, Guingamp could have easily been in the upper half of the table, but unfortunately they have one of the worst defense in Ligue1, making constant decisive errors.
Keeper Lossl saved Guingamp in many games this year, and single-handedly avoided disasters after some incredible saves.
This should be an entertaining encounter, with Rennes pushing to get back on the right track and Guingamp always dangerous on counters. The offense is the strongest part for both sides, so hopefully this will be a fast paced encounter. over 2.5 goals at 1.97
