Believe it or not the game between Lorient and Rennes last round was pretty balanced and the 3-0 score is misleading to say the least.
Upfront Rennes had a mediocre performance and scored following 2 corners (both central defenders scored…) and a fast counter. Efficiency was Rennes’ major attribute as they converted all their chances (besides the goals scored they didn’t create any other opportunity…)
Keeper Costil was once again the hero that saved the day. He is in amazing form and nothing gets past him no matter how many opponents he is up against. It is difficult to score against Rennes nowadays, not because the defense is solid but only because Costil has extraordinary reflexes.
In the midweek Guingamp were eliminated from the French Cup by Ligue2 side Auxerre after a balanced game in which they used the best possible lineup (lost 1-0).
Recently it seems that Guingamp reduced rythm and can’t cope anymore with organized opponents. Play-maker Marveaux once again suffered an injury but even if he is a skilled player his absence is not necessarily a bad thing. With Marveaux out forwards Mandanne and Beauvue will get more involved in the game and may once again achieve full potential. They are Guingamp’s best players and with them in top form Guingamp can score against any opponent from Ligue1.
Guests will miss fullback Leveque who suffered an injury in the midweek Cup game.
If Guingamp would have had a higher level of confidence a bet on them could have been quite valuable, but not in current conditions (poor form and low on confidence). Another game in which Rennes’ keeper Costil will be man of the match is expected.
UPDATE: No surprises in Rennes’ squad
