Reims – Monaco Preview

reims monaco preview

As of late Reims have been kind of disappointing as they failed to score in the last two rounds and their actions ended way before reaching opponents’ penalty box.

All offensive players are available, nothing changed since the season started, but now attacking players seem to be in a standstill and simply can’t find any solutions. Most the times attacking players aren’t facing opponents’ goal and they prefer a simple pass behind instead of pushing the game forward.

Most of Reims’ possession is wasted in midfield waiting for opponents to make a huge mistake.

Reims will welcome back defender Traore and midfielder Kankava after suspension, but may miss defender Fofana who suffered an injury last round.

Last week coach Jardim was forced to change the central defense and Monaco looked more solid than usual and was pretty close of getting all points (1-1 vs Lyon). Toulalan started as a central defender, right next to Wallace, and opponents had major difficulties in creating tunnels.

But this round things should go back to normal as Raggi and Carvalho will be available again after suspension, furthermore Wallace will definitely miss (suspended).

In Europa League Monaco used Carvalho and Wallace in central defense and kept a clean sheet but opponents were somewhat inexperienced and soft (Monaco won 1-0 vs Qabala)

Monaco have huge talent in the attacking phase and coach Jardim can’t decide who to start with. The constant rotation upfront may seem like a good thing as it motivates players, but it also prevents continuity and players can’t achieve full potential.

This is not a very promising encounter as both sides seem to lack creativity at the moment. Odds may be a bit unbalanced since Monaco are known to make defensive blunders when Raggi and Carvalho partner in central defense.

UPDATE: Reims will have to do without midfielder Kankava who fulfilled his suspension but got injured. Forward NGog was also left outside the squad (rest). In comparison to the Champions League game Monaco will miss injured midfielder Lemar and suspended defender Wallace.
