PSG St Etienne Preview

psg st etienne preview

PSG

In-spite controlling the game and holding more possession, PSG’s overall performance against Monaco last round was disappointing.

They seemed clueless in the attacking phase and really struggled to create tunnels, in-spite the continuous pressure. Midfielder Pastore missed and the creativity levels decreased significantly, even if Lucas, Cavani and Di Maria were present. At the moment Pastore seems to be the most important player for the offensive phase (returned to training this week).

Central defender David Luiz transferred-out, but PSG should be ok in defense, as they still have Silva (will return from injury this round), Kimpembe and Marquinhos.

Fullback Aurier will miss through injury and Marquinhos should take his place on the flank.

ST ETIENNE

St Etienne failed to score in the last two games (Europa League included), but the overall strength increased after they have transferred-in midfielders Veretout and Saivet. It will take some time for them to adapt, especially since they seem out-of-form at the moment, but both of them are highly skilled players and will surely play a major role in St Etienne’s game plan.

Guests recently refused an offer of 12 million euro for central midfielder Selnaes. This is excellent news, as it means that St Etienne are set on building a powerful team, with a midfield that can easily compete in European competitions.

Guests will welcome back central defender Perrin after suspension.

BETTING

PSG should dominate, but will again struggle to get inside the penalty box. Sooner or later hosts may find the winner, but it will be extremely difficult to win at a comfortable margin, especially if St Etienne will defend on two lines.

UPDATE: Bad news for PSG as Thiago Silva, Maxwell, Pastore will miss once again. St Etienne welcome back two important players, midfielders Hamouma and Dabo.

PSG : Areola, Trapp – Georgen, Kimpembe, Kurzawa, Marquinhos, Meunier – Verratti, Thiago Motta, Rabiot, Nkunku, Matuidi, Krychowiak, Di Maria – Ben Arfa, Augustin, Ikoné, Lucas, Cavani, Jesé
