PSG – St Etienne Preview

psg st etienne preview

Balanced game between PSG and Real Madrid in the midweek Champions League game (finished 0-0). The Parisians were surprisingly solid against one of the most powerful clubs in the world, and by now they are force to be reckoned with on the international stage.

In Ligue1 they don’t have any real opposition at the moment and PSG will lose points only when they won’t be in the mood for playing football.

Coach Blanc may make some changes, but starting with Kurzawa and Pastore instead of Maxwell and Di Maria won’t be much of an advantage for the opposition…

Central defender David Luiz missed the game against Real Madrid and is once again doubtful

St Etienne fully controlled the game against Gazelec Ajaccio last round and easily won 2-0. But in-spite the soft opposition they created only a few real scoring opportunities from open play.

St Etienne focus more on set pieces and long range attempts and don’t have the patience (or the skills) to push the game forward and wait for a more favorable position.

It seems that St Etienne’s lost form and their creativity diminished considerably. Last round Hamouma was invisible and had to be substituted with about half an hour to go.

In Europa League St Etienne managed to win away at Dnepr but the performance was far from convincing (finished 1-0). They scored against the run of play when opponents least expected and then agglomerated the own half and hoped for the best.

St Etienne are fourth in the table but don’t really deserve that position. They struggle to create chances and long range attempts alone won’t bring any points against PSG. One way game and an easy victory for hosts is foreseen. PSG -1.75 at 2.07

UPDATE: PSG will once again miss defender David Luiz. St Etienne welcome back midfielder Cohade after injury.
