Like in all their games this season PSG once again dominated last round away at Sochaux. In-spite of that PSG couldn’t get more than a draw (finished 1-1) and it seems the number of chances created diminishes as round goes by.
Of course most of the players don’t really care anymore as the season is over and coach Blanc doesn’t even try to rotate the squad, add some youngsters, some freshness.
In every game they keep on moving the ball from one midfielder to another but recently they need about 20 minutes to create a dangerous opportunity and it’s arriving mainly from actions carried in speed on the flanks.
PSG look bored with playing football, they need some time off.
Rennes got defeated in the French Cup final by Guingamp after a disappointing performance (lost 2-0). But Rennes can’t afford the luxury to lament about it as they are only 3 points above the relegation zone with 3 games to be played.
Central defenders seemed a bit disconnected in the Cup final, maybe they underestimated the opponent, but for sure this won’t happen against PSG as every club in France is extra motivated when playing in Paris.
Recently Rennes lack the means to create pressure in all areas of the field. Some time ago coach Montanier decided to start with 3 defensive minded central midfielders. Ever since that happened Rennes build actions only on the flanks and most of them end with crosses toward tall striker Toivonen.
Makoun who used to be a defensive midfielder was given offensive tasks but his passes or goal scoring attempts often end up miles away.
There’s no doubt PSG will again dominate but given their lack of motivation it may prove to be a boring encounter, especially with Rennes needing points and most probably concentrating forces in defense.
UPDATE: PSG will welcome back striker Ibrahimovic after more than a month of injury. Rennes will miss midfielder Makoun who suffered an injury.
