Few expected PSG not to take all points in Champions League against Anderlecht.
PSG borrowed a lot from the mentality of their owners. Just like Qatar pushes for a military intervention in Syria but without any kind of support, PSG are constantly pushing in each game but without having a solid foundation (no offensive midfielders in the center).
Against Anderlecht the problem was central midfield that failed to create anything so PSG had to rely only on wingers and Ibrahimovic. They have 3 central midfielders with little offensive ambitions: Motta, Verratti and Matuidi. None of them are real attacking midfielders and the assists created by them are only the results of long balls.
The squad is crawling with wingers (Menez, Pastore, Lavezzi, Lucas, Cavani) but no real central attacking midfielder. This only proves what a chaotic management strategy PSG have, a strategy put together by a former tennis player, Nasser Al-Khelaifi a close friend to Qatar’s emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Al-Khelaifi is the one deciding who PSG buys and sells and he’s got no knowledge whatsoever on how a modern football team should look like.
There’s no long term plan at PSG as former coach Ancelotti said it himself.
Defender Silva returned from injury and played about half an hour but was very hesitant. Fullback Jallet was only a spectator at Anderlecht’s goal. He didn’t even made an attempt to tackle… Central defender Alex was too slow and always late and Marquinhos once again made a couple of errors, only this time they weren’t exploited by opponents (like it happened against St Etienne). Anderlecht could have scored more but they didn’t had any real ambitions and thought 1 was enough.
Nice’s game with Bordeaux was very boring as only few chances were created the entire game. But Nice were without midfielder Traore, the one who lately plays a major role in their tactics. Without him, Bruls was moved in the center but his potential diminished, seeing that lately he feels more comfortable on the side.
Winger Bautheac returned from injury and went straight into the line-up when he probably needed more time in order to gain some form.
Now with Traore being back from suspension things will return to normal for Nice. Offensive midfielders Eysseric – Traore – Bruls will be the ones creating chances for prolific striker Cvitanich. I find Cvitanich to be the smartest striker in Ligue1, with an excellent ability of annoying opponents, gaining free-kicks in dangerous positions and even penalties.
PSG’s defender Alex won’t have a chance against Cvitanich. If Marquinhos will play, his usual childish errors will undoubtedly be exploited by Cvitanich. If Marquinhos won’t play, there will be Silva who’s just returned from injury and lacks form. So it’s a win win situation for Nice.
At the moment of writing this Cavani is doubtful for PSG while Nice will be without first choice keeper Ospina.
Regardless of what the stats tell us, PSG’s defense is not strong and Nice certainly can score against them. The price on Nice to score at 2.20 is just huge and except a few stats there are no other reasons to justify such odds.
