Although in the end it was an easy win, PSG struggled a bit in the midweek Champions League game against Ajax (won 3-1).
Believe it or not Ajax held more possession but had fewer chances as PSG successfully blocked all entries inside the penalty box. This game is proof that PSG don’t need prolonged possession in order to score and the goal can come all of sudden, after only two or three fast and precise passes.
PSG had to do without a couple of important players, defender Silva and midfielders Verratti, Motta and Cabaye. Verratti should return according to latest reports but there is still a question mark regarding Cabaye’s presence.
Hard earned point for Nice last round against Reims after a game in which Nice were frequently under pressure (finished 0-0). Problems were visible in all departments, from the defense where huge spaces were available for opponents to exploit, to the offense where striker Cvitanich barely touched the ball.
The offensive impotence came as a surprise as Nice started in a very attacking formation (three strikers). But midfielders were mostly active when trying to win back possession and failed miserably when it came to creating chances.
Central defender Bodmer is still injured so most likely there will no improvement in the defensive phase.
The spaces between defenders are too large and against the most prolific Ligue1 side it’s going to be a nightmare…
Nice are in a clear downtrend and they seem to have transformed in a family business. After coach’s older son Gregoire Puel became an undisputed regular, now it’s the turn of the younger son to start appearing in the lineup (last week forward Paulin Puel played his first minutes in Ligue1 this season)
Guests will welcome back fullback Palun and winger Bautheac after suspension.
Nice are no match for PSG who will surely test young keeper Hassen from all possible positions. One sided game is foreseen and a comfortable victory in the end. PSG -2 at 2.01
UPDATE: A bit too early for midfielder Verratti to make a comeback and only defender Silva and midfielder Motta returned to the squad. Nice will also welcome back midfielder Carlos Eduardo.
