PSG Metz Preview

psg metz preview

Although they won, PSG struggled a bit last round away at Bastia (finished 1-0). The defense seemed to be the most vulnerable part of the team, and opponents came pretty close to scoring a couple of times.

Fullbacks Kurzawa and Aurier mostly had offensive tasks (Kurzawa even scored), and central defenders Kimpembe and David Luiz were alone to deal with the incoming danger. Last season PSG conceded only 19 goals, but they won’t be able to repeat that performance in these conditions.

At the moment central defender Silva is out injured, and the defensive strength should increase once he recovers.

Attacking-wise PSG can be very dangerous, but now it looks like they need to work a bit on increasing the chemistry levels. For example, striker Ben Arfa doesn’t full understand Di Maria’s intentions, and attacking midfielder Pastore (mostly on the bench last season) has problems in creating triangles with Di Maria/Lucas and Ben Arfa.

Excellent start of the season for Metz who managed to win 3-2 against Lille, after being 0-2 down.

It was an impressive comeback, and even if they scored two goals from penalties, they deserve full credit for believing in their chance and constantly for pushing the game forward.

About half the team is newly transferred, and the process of building playing relations is only in the incipient stage. Passes don’t always find the recipient, sometimes there are too many players in the same area, but overall Metz have decent potential and can easily avoid relegation this season.

This team is the perfect opportunity for striker Erdinc and midfielder Cohade to find the glory they once lost, for winger NGuette and playmaker Mollet to show off their skills and make a name for themselves, and for winger Jouffre to be the leader he deserves.

A bet on goals would have been attractive if the chemistry in the attacking phase would have been at higher levels, both for PSG and Metz. Best to stay away and simply enjoy the game.

UPDATE: Hosts will be without defenders Thiago Silva and Marquinhos, and midfielder Stambouli.
