It’s been quite some time since PSG conceded 2 goals in a game (won away at Toulouse 4-2 last round). The biggest problem seems to be defending the flanks, as fullbacks Maxwell and Van der Wiel can be taken out of play without much headache.
Central defenders Alex and Silva seem too far apart and any cross inside the box can cause havoc. Defensive midfielder Thiago Motta is slower than ever and even started making childish mistakes (happened last round when Toulouse scored the 2nd goal).
Upfront they are still one of the most effective teams in the world. Winger Lavezzi finally started proving he is worth 30 millions EUR and scored in both last rounds. Great news as winger Cavani is available again and will most probably start against Marseille. His replacement Lucas is a hard working player, but in the end there are no comparison terms…
Marseille were pretty lucky to win last round against Lorient (finished 1-0). Especially in the 1st half Lorient was the better side and played around with opportunities.
Marseille’s goal arrived late in the game and only due to the talent of offensive players. Otherwise there is not much cohesion in their game, especially in the defensive phase.
If Marseille will focus on the flanks they will be able to create some problems for PSG. Wingers Payet and Thauvin can always outrun their direct opponents (Maxwell and Van der Wiel) thanks to speed and ball control.
Although Marseille aren’t exactly scaring anyone when it comes to creativity, they can score against PSG, mainly because of individual skills.
With Lavezzi in good form and Cavani back in the lineup, PSG are also surely able to put a few past keeper Mandanda.
This should be an entertaining encounter with a few goals in it (hopefully on both ends). Since the game opened the odds on over 2.5 goals continue to drop, but at 1.75 it is still valuable. I suggest you hurry, as most likely will drop below 1.70 till Sunday night.
