PSG MARSEILLE PREVIEW
PSG were surprisingly solid and pragmatic in the midweek Champions League game away at Shaktar Donetsk (PSG won 3-0). The Ukrainians imposed the rythm but PSG defended with lucidity for the entire game and punished on counters with every chance they got.
In Ligue1 there is usually a different story as PSG control all games regardless the opponent. With the exception of Di Maria, who hasn’t adapted yet, all players are in top form, and even keeper Trapp who made a a couple of childish mistakes a few rounds ago also regained confidence.
There are no reason for coach Blanc to make any changes, but if by any chance he will decide to rest a player or two that is no reason to worry as PSG’s bench is filled with talent.
After starting the season with the wrong foot (and bouncing back after a few rounds) Marseille are once again in a bad moment as they are sitting on 2 consecutive defeats.
In midweek in Europa League Marseille constantly pushed the game forward and created scoring opportunities but they simply could not find the net (lost 1-0 against Liberec). Watching forward Batshuayi play is really a nerve wrecking experience as he can miss some of the best opportunities imaginable.
Furthermore Marseille could have conceded more goals if opponents would have been a bit more courageous and wouldn’t have withdrawn in defense.
The inefficiency when it comes to applying the finishing touch and the gap between department are by far Marseille’s biggest problems.
Marseille will miss suspended fullback Mendy.
Marseile won’t be able to create so many dangerous chances when playing away at PSG and if Batshuayi will once again start to play around with opportunities Marseille are simply doomed. Ibrahimovic and company shouldn’t have too many problems in getting past two central defenders who played only a couple of games together (Rekik and Rolando). PSG -1.5 at 2.08
