PSG scored an early goal in the midweek Champions League game away in Amsterdam and took the foot off the gas afterwards. They still had a couple of decent opportunities to increase the lead but weren’t very determined and as a consequence Ajax scored the equalizer with about 15 minutes to go (finished 1-1).
This season PSG at home and PSG away look like 2 totally different teams. Although they are way more valuable and talented than most opponents, away from home PSG are happy to defend a minimum lead. This is the main reason why they drew all their away games so far this season.
On home ground they continuously apply pressure and corner opponents and until now they’ve succeeded in increasing their lead and winning comfortably in the end (at least 2 goals advantage).
PSG should welcome back defender Silva after injury.
Lyon made a nice surprise last round when they managed to win 2-1 in-front of Monaco. Things looked good upfront with Fekir and Malbranque in good form and making the most of their creative skills. In these conditions Gourcuff may once again be left on the bench after his injury.
The bad news is there was no improvement in defense. Umtiti was more useful to the offensive phase than preventing opponents from entering inside the penalty box. He made a couple of wrong passes, late tackles and failed dribbling moves (one of which led to Monaco scoring). But everyone forgave his sins when he delivered the assist that helped Lyon win.
For this game Umtiti may partner Kone in central defense. Both of them are fresh after injuries and lack form. For Ibrahimovic and company this will be like taking candy from a baby.
PSG won’t reduce the rythm anymore after taking the lead. They will continue to push and assure an easy victory. PSG -1.5 at 1.94
UPDATE: PSG’s captain Silva is still out injured. Lyon also welcomed back fullback Bedimo.
