PSG – Lille Preview

PSG managed to qualify to the superior stage of the French Cup after a dramatic clash with St Etienne. Only a late goal from Cavani helped PSG avoid a penalty shootout.

PSG played without keeper Sirigu, Ibrahimovic and Alex, while Matuidi started on the bench. Now all of them should start against Lille. Only Maxwell and Cavani are doubts.

PSG are already winter champions regardless of this game’s result, but they will try and take advantage of Monaco’s wrong step and increase the lead (currently only 2 points).

I won’t insist on PSG as most of you are already aware of their power and playing style, instead I will be concentrating on Lille.

Despite holding more than 60% possession last round against Bastia, Lille were really disappointing in the offensive phase. 2 long range attempts from Kalou helped Lille take all points (won 2-1) as otherwise they weren’t capable of infiltrating the penalty box.

Lille already lacked creativity upfront, but now with Martin back in the squad that problem accentuated. Play-maker Martin was injured for about 2 months, time in which Rodelin took his place. He was the brain of the team, adding speed and ingenuity. But now Martin is back from injury, Rodelin is only a bench warmer and Lille can’t find any solutions upfront. 2 rounds ago against Bordeaux the problems were pretty clear, last round again versus Bastia, those are enough proofs.

Keeper Enyeama started conceding and doesn’t do miracles anymore. Lille’s defenders may be solid but have problems with fast through balls (PSG’s specialty), especially Kjaer (doubtful for this game).

Lille can only score through a penalty or a long distance shot, otherwise all the attempts will come from PSG. The price of 2.29 for PSG -1.5 is just huge. For extra safety you can always take PSG -1 (with money back if they win just by 1) at 1.67.
