PSG – Lille Preview

PSG’s confidence may have been shaken a bit after losing 5-1 on aggregate to Barcelona and understanding that on the international stage they are only normal players and not world class talents.

Back on Earth the reality is harsh as with 5 rounds to go they are only 2nd in the table, even if they have a game in hand.

PSG are conceding too many goals (9 in the last 5 Ligue1 rounds) and even if they are getting positive results they are forced to outscore the opponent. Especially central defender David Luiz is in poor form and is often late at the ball and can be easily outplayed by simple line changes.

When up against an organized opponent and with striker Ibtrahimovic suspended outscoring the opponents may prove to be a luxury PSG won’t afford…

Hosts may welcome back defender Silva but there is no certainty in this moment.

Lille made a good game last week against Bordeaux and deserved to take all 3 points (won 3-0). Lille forced opponents to try their chance from outside the penalty box as there was no way to get inside.

Surprisingly, in-form forward Origi started only on the bench, but only because the other offensive players have also shown increased playing appetite. Attacking midfielder Boufal played as a forward, made an excellent game and even managed to deliver 2 assists.

There is no exaggeration to say that since Hazard transferred-out a couple of season ago Lille’s attacking phase hasn’t looked so good as it does now. The best thing is that Lille don’t need to bring many players upfront and the defensive strength is not affected at all.

This is the best moment of the season for Lille who can definitely take advantage of Ibrahimovic’s absence and PSG’s leaky defense. Lille +1.25 at 2.00
