Many believe this game will be a walk in the park for PSG but the truth couldn’t be further away.
Besides the tight schedule (PSG will play Anderlecht next week in Belgium) the French Champions also have some squad problems.
Both of their [tweetable]defensive midfielders Motta and Verratti will be suspended[/tweetable] for this encounter. This is a huge blow for the defense who is already missing injured central defender Silva.
If that’s not enough Brazilian fullback Maxwell will be very tired after making the trip to South America for the friendly versus Zambia, a game in which he played the full 90 minutes.
[tweetable]Most probably coach Blanc will rest Maxwell[/tweetable] and use young Digne as a left back. Digne is a decent player, a promising talent, but still rough on the edges at his age.
Young Rabiot will most likely start as a central midfielder alongside Matuidi. In order to compensate the suspensions of Verratti and Motta, Blanc will be forced to convert a central defender into a midfielder or otherwise use more offensive players than usual.
Lavezzi and Cavani also made trips to South America but I don’t think Blanc affords the luxury of resting them, even if winger Menez will be back from suspension and Brazilian Lucas is always ready on the bench.
Opponents Bastia are in a clear uptrend. Playing relations between newly arrived midfielders started to take shape. This was perfectly visible last round when Bastia smashed Lorient 4-1.
[tweetable]The offensive midfield Khazri – Boudebouz – Krasic has tremendous potential [/tweetable]and already started to fully exploit it. Coach Hantz realized his past mistakes and began to leave winger Raspentino out of the team. By some unknown reasons he used to prefer mediocre Raspentino ahead of players like Krasic or Boudebouz, ruining Bastia’s offensive game. But those are past times, Raspentino is not even on the bench anymore and it is rumored that Ligue2 side Dijon have an interest in him. Well to be honest Ligue2 is where he belongs…
Upfront Bastia will use either Keseru or Bruno but both of them have almost the same profile. They are very combative players, altruists and always try to compensate with determination the lack of any other attributes.
For Bastia fullback Diakite is still suspended while keeper Landreau is doubtful.
Given PSG’s defensive headaches ahead of this game and Bastia’s offensive awakening the odds of 2.00 for Bastia to score are a definite must. Krasic and Boudebouz will dazzle the likes of Digne and Rabiot with fast paced actions. Even if PSG will score 1 or 2 or 3, Bastia won’t give up, they never do, they are Corsicans, great grandchildren of Napoleon… Entertaining game to be expected in which guests will net at least once.
