It’s been two months already since Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, Marseille’s owner, put the club up for sale. There were a couple of rumors, but unfortunately no real offer until now.
The situation is getting pretty uncomfortable, as Margarita Louis-Dreyfus is refusing to pay for any expenses at the club (according to rumors). Players voiced their concern over the future of the club, while fans are reluctant to renew their annual season ticket.
A couple of fans are trying to start a Socios-like project, in which fans will own the club. They are counting on somewhere between 10 and 15 million Marseille’s supporters, and all of them are invited to join the project.
The “Nous Sommes l’OM” association was born and it seems the initiative is getting a positive response. Still, there is a long way to go, and most probably the actual owner won’t accept any negotiation.
This season was plagued with problems for OM. Marseille had one of the most skilled and valuable squads in the tournament, but they continuously struggled and finished in the lower half of the table. Coach Michel was sacked before the end of the season, and at the moment there are many rumors regarding the departure of important players.
Marseille remains one of the most important sides in French football and it’s painful to see the club in this situation. Hopefully, with France hosting Euro 2016, football lovers in France will receive a confidence boost and more of Marseille’s fans will join the newly created association.
