Nice deserved more last round away at Reims. The game was kind of balanced but the best chances were for Nice, so the 1-0 defeat in the end was a bit unjust.
Nice’s coach Puel surprised with a 3-5-2 formation with Kolodziejczak and Puel acting both as fullbacks and wingers. This system allowed Nice to be more dangerous in the center where Bruins and Bruls constantly pushed the game forward.
But unfortunately neither Kolodziejczak and Puel were accustomed to such a system and pretty soon got overwhelmed with all the tasks.
I believe Nice will switch back to the classic formation and this time wingers Bautheac and Eysseric (gifted players) will make the lineup.
This is actually the formation that got Nice most their points so far. For a couple of round Nice were unable to use all these players due to injuries. But now everyone is fully fit and ready for action. Not to mentioned very determined to end the bad run.
With Bodmer and Pejcinovic in the central defense Nice can align a pretty competitive team.
Nice may welcome back keeper Ospina after injury.
I don’t think anyone expected Sochaux to create any-kind of problems for PSG last round (lost 5-0). Even coach Renard said after the game they are not affected in any way by the huge defeat, everyone expected it… Personally I don’t think this attitude is very healthy (considering a game is lost even before entering the field).
Sochaux used a defense in 5 but all central defenders are too slow and fail to anticipate strikers’ moves. In fact all of Sochaux’s central defenders got booked because of late tackles last round.
The support from midfielders will be reduced now as defensive midfielder Lopy got injured last round.
Offensively Sochaux create very few chances and this actually adds pressure on own defense.
Sochaux have top talent on the flanks. Especially fullbacks Corchia and Faussurier are skilled players but unfortunately they aren’t given the freedom needed for fully exploiting their potential.
Major changes are needed at Sochaux during the winter break (maybe even a coach change once again…) otherwise they are sure relegation material.
Nice have the power to bounce back to winning days against Sochaux. The price of 1.80 for Nice to win is a must take.
