Great news for all football lovers, Nice switched back to the old 4-3-1-2 system. For a couple of rounds coach Puel played with 3 central defenders and Nice were simply unrecognizable.
Nice transformed from the most prolific Ligue1 team to a boring and ineffective side. The defensive phase seemed a bit stronger, but unfortunately the attacking phase was severely affected and Nice failed to score for three consecutive rounds.
Last week they switched back and found the net only after a couple of minutes. They goal may have arrived a bit too early, they got cautious, withdrew and got equalized late in second half (1-1 vs Reims).
Results can already be seen as the midweek Cup game was packed with excitement (finished 2-2 vs Guingamp after 120 minutes and Nice lost at penalties) so the future looks promising for Nice’s fans and all Ligue1 followers.
Although Montpellier won 2-1, they had a surprisingly difficult encounter last round against Guingamp. Opponents took the lead in the first half and created numerous problems for Montpellier who simply couldn’t defend the penalty box.
Central midfielders Martin and Sanson have playmaker skills and don’t participate properly in the defensive phase. This is one of the reasons Montpellier keep on conceding goals, despite the powerful defensive line (on paper).
Attacking midfielder Boudebouz and forward Ninga are in excellent form. Ninga reached a total of 6 goals in 9 games, and Boudebouz once again delivered an assist last week. From an offensive point of view Montpellier are on a roll.
Nice didn’t forget to play offensive football in the three rounds they adopted defensive tactics. With Montpellier in great offensive form, this should be an entertaining encounter with plenty of scoring opportunities on both ends. Over 2.50 goals at 2.25
UPDATE: Nice welcome back midfieledr Hult after suspension but will once again miss fullback Pereira.
