Besides playmaker Eduardo Nice also lost forward Bosetti in this summer, versatile midfielder Digard and fullback Amavi. Eduardo and Amavi will surely be missed, especially young fullback Amavi for whom they do not have a proper replacement.
They transferred-in 4 players in an attempt to balance the situation: experienced forward Ben Arfa, midfielder Seri from Portugal, defender Le Marchand and forward Germain from Monaco.
With the arrivals of Ben Arfa and Germain Nice are extremely dangerous upfront and can inflict harm in most Ligue1 defenses. Most probably Ben Arfa will play behind the two forwards Germain and Plea so he will have enough freedom to choose his side and make the most of his skills.
Although only friendlies, Nice impressed last month after they managed to score a total of of 9 goals against teams like Galatasary, Besiktas and Napoli.
Unfortunately the defensive phase is still in construction with newly arrived central defender Le Marchand having to adapt to Ligue1 (arrived from Le Havre Ligue2) and with no replacement for fullback Amavi.
It was hard to keep up with the changes at Monaco as everyday there was an important transfer. Carrasco, Kondogbia, Berbatov, Germain, Ocampos are the most important names that left the squad. On the other hand they have transferred-in (among others) forward El-Shaarawy from Milan, midfielder Pasalic from Chelsea, winger Cavaleiro from Benfica and striker Carrilo from Estudiantes.
It seems there is an improvement at Monaco in comparison to last season. The defense is still the same but the attacking play has more speed and creativity now thanks to the newly arrived players. Creating actions down the flanks and advancing with fullbacks Kurzawa and Fabinho will once again play a major role in Monaco’s game plan.
Monaco haven’t made a single important addition to the defense and at times they seem overwhelmed with a fast paced rythm, just like it used to happen last season.
This is the Derby de la Cote d’Azur and the stadium will definitely be packed and this will push hosts to rely mostly on the offensive skills. Both sides focused more on the attacking phase during the transfer window and this should be seen in the final result. Over 2.25 goal at 2.17
UPDATE: Nice will miss injured central defender Genevois. Monaco’s central defender Abdennour was left outside the squad (close to signing with Barcelona)
