Excellent performance from Nice last round away at Bordeaux (Nice won 2-1). Every single player made great efforts and in the end they got a well deserved victory.
Nice looked like a well oiled engine starting with fullbacks Amavi and Puel who initiated most of the actions and continuing with offensive midfielders Bautheac, Eduardo and Eysseric who were very active and inventive. Bautheac and Eysseric delivered an assist each and Eduardo constantly oscillated between flanks disorientating opponents.
Young lone striker Plea was often the final destination for all the actions, gave huge headaches to the opponents and even managed to score the decisive goal in the last minute of the game.
Unfortunately in defense things didn’t looked that good with both central defenders Gomis and Genevois having hazardous interventions and central midfielders failing to anticipate opponents’ moves.
There are no news at the moment regarding Bodmer’s situation so the central defender may miss once again, same as central midfielder Digard.
Marseille were a bit lucky to win over Guingamp last round (won 2-1). With 10 minutes to go the score was 0-0 and Marseille were heading towards a disappointing draw.
Marseille dominated most of the encounter but Guingamp were very organized and successfully closed down all spaces. Attacking midfielders Thauvin and Payet didn’t seem that inspired and performed below their usual standard.
Things looked even worse in defense and most likely the situation will aggravate since this round central defender Fanni and fullback Mendy will be out suspended. The immediate future doesn’t look that bright for Marseille with all those defensive problems (central defender N’Koulou is still away on international duty).
Another bad news is that winger Alessandrini suffered a new injury after just getting back last round.
But happily for Marseille they have world class players in the offensive department and can always score out-of-nothing. Players like Gignac, Payet or Thauvin are always dangerous, regardless their form or the opponent.
With Marseille going through rough times in the defensive compartment and Nice having a good morale this should be quite an entertaining encounter. Over 2.5 goals at 2.08
