Nice – Lille Preview

Nice started last round in 5-4-1 formula and ended up playing 3-5-2 in a desperate attempt to salvage 1 point.

Regardless the change of system Nice lost away at Nantes 2-1 and to be honest they never really stood a chance of getting a draw.

Things really look bad upfront for Nice. First of all they have no real striker to compensate the absence of Cvitanich (injured last round, suspended now). Secondly the ones in charge for creating chances, mainly Eysseric and Bautheac are completely out-of-form. Captain Bautheac was even left on the bench last round due to his lack of involvement recently.

At the back there’s no need for high levels of creativity to open up Nice as there are huge spaces available, regardless if they use a defense in 5.

Lille dominated against Montpellier last round but failed to apply the finishing touch (ended 0-0). Montpellier adopted a defensive approach and used 5 players at the back for the first time this season. Lille aren’t exactly bursting with creativity, so the defense in 5 made their task much more difficult.

But regardless how many players Nice will use in defense, things will be different now and Lille should be able to approach the penalty box more often, as hosts’ level of organization seems to be under Ligeu1 standards.

Lille may have accumulated a bit of tiredness as this will be the 3rd game in only 10 days. But the frustration after dominating and failing to win against Montpelier will surely give them wings for this game.

Lille will miss midfielders Mavuba (injured) and Martin (suspended). Martin’s absence is actually a good thing as it assures young Lopes will continue in the lineup. Mavuba is a key player but he isn’t getting any younger and agile and it won’t be the first time Lille will play without him.

Only by making their usual game guests should keep a clean sheet and take advantage of the spaces in Nice’s defense. Lille -0.5 at 2.13
